What Affects Tree Removal Cost?

1. Access to the tree

Is it in the front yard with driveway access? Or in a fenced backyard requiring branches to be carried out by hand? Are there power lines, fences, decks, or houses nearby? The more obstacles, the more time and skill required.

2. Size and species of the tree

Large trees like cottonwoods (up to 7 feet in diameter) require extensive rigging. Hard woods like oak and locust are heavier per branch. Fast-growing silver maples have brittle branches requiring more anchoring points.

3. Condition of the tree — is it dead?

Dead trees are more dangerous to climb. Diseased or structurally compromised trees require additional safety measures. Dead ash trees (common in Denver due to emerald ash borer) are particularly risky — branches snap without warning.

4. What is the environment around the tree?

Is the yard adjacent to a home or a neighbor's property? Over a chain-link fence or a wrought iron railing? Over flower beds or patios? Each scenario adds complexity.

5. Cleanup and haul-away

Do you want the material hauled away, or will you handle it as firewood? Is there a place to chip into? These affect the final price significantly. I offer flexible options — keep the firewood for free, let me chip and haul, or a combination.
